FRACKED! Intro

Tonight I attended the a community meeting for the first time, meeting some new neighbors, under rather unfortunate circumstances.  Or, from the perspective of some, quite fortunate ones.   The property owners in the area are joining forces in negotiating contracts with Marcellus Shale drilling companies.  Rather, those who stand to benefit the most (speaking in HUNDREDS of thousands of dollars) are "welcoming" us in to make sure we "get our due" (to the tune of not even ten thousand dollars); or rather, bolster their bargaining power while ensuring that those of us, whose properties may be intersecting others', don't preclude the energy company from building pipelines or drilling across property lines by not signing contracts.

Note that PA legislature is attempting to solve such pithy problems by forcing unwilling landowners' signature in such cases, either by passing legislation or whipping out the eminent domain card.  So basically, if you don't want a pipeline on your property, and your property is in the way, too bad.  Your property and whatever beautiful gardens/landscaping you have will be dug up, and a pipeline will be laid.

I'll be posting my observations, information, and experiences over the next few months.  Anyone else stuck in this same situation may hopefully glean some insight and maybe even learn something useful.
